Cheap Baby Clothing, How to Find, Choose & Buy.
Baby clothing is a major expense for many families at a time when their income may not stretch to buying all the designer or branded clothes they would like for baby. Having looked for advice myself on how to overcome this and find discount baby clothes preferably online I came across a lot of information that was just regurgitated and not always accurate or focussed on the actual problem, much of the information suggested rummage sales, hand me downs and other forms of free or second hand goods. Although I will touchon those subjects the real purpose of this article is to discuss where to find, howw to choose and where to buy cheap baby clothing.
When we talk about buying cheap or discounted items of clothing for baby, alarm bells start to ring in our heads, we must be extremely cauious as some of these garments may not be safe or fireproof or protect baby from the effects of the latest sun storm! We have to get some perspective on buying cheaply, in the western world we are blessed with standards which our manufacturers must mee so buying garments made in these first world countries is fine as they meet our standards. Perhaps some far eastern manufacturers do not take so much care with these things, well that can be true, however most worldwide clothing manufacturers are targetting North America and other western rich countries with their products so the vast majority of them will meet the appropriate standards. You will see that the vast majority of my selections for finding your baby bargains are from trusted recognised dealers and traders that have their own safety criteria for items they sell.
So, where do we find these cheap baby clothes that will make such a difference to our household budgets? Firstly let me touch on second hand & free clothing, The best possible source of free baby clothing is from 'hand me downs' from friends and family, going outside your friends and family is not ideal as you may not always know how the clothes have been used or where they were sourced, knowing where they came from is always a good idea for peace of mind. I have one exception to this rule that i have found from personal experience and that is the online experience of Freecycle. Freecycle is basically a group of people who are either thrift fans, philanthropists or environmentally concious and want to recycle all manner of goods to keep them from the landfill sites. People simply post to the group what items they have for collection and choose someone from the responders to have the items for free, people can also post wanted notices which works well. It is my experience that freecyclers give great items away particularly the baby clothing and equipment which is often barely used. You will find all sorts of information about Freecycling on the web, just search.
Moving on to the online sources of cheap baby clothing, These may seem to be plentiful but i would suggest that you take care, especially with baby clothes companies with great headline prices as they often do not stack up when it is time to checkout. Having said that, sales online and offline can be a great source of bargains but once again you need to beware, there is a tendency to overspend at sales, buying items because they are reduced to a bargain, my tip to combat this is to go with a list of requiremnts and do not purchase anything not on your list. Remember you can not compare prices when you are in a buying frenzy at a sale, beware!
My number one source of cheap baby clothing online has to be Amazon, yes the bookseller is a great place to find and buy absolute bargains, you are protected by using the Amazon payment system and no matter whether you are buying from Amazon themselves or one of their marketplace sellers you get the same great value and service. I absolutely urge you to take a look at Amazon the next time you are looking to purchase baby clothes, you will find a box on this page somewhere showcasing current buys available there right now.
Next up is Ebay. Most of us will be aware of ebay and at one time it would have been number one in any list for buyers, however times have been changing at eBay in that sellers are becoming more and more like traders than people selling stuff. This is a deliberate act by eBay but it does mean that real bargains are becoming much harder to find there, in fact as an avid eBay fan and watcher I know personally of a frightingly large number of eBay sellers in the baby clothing market that simply relist items available on Amazon at a profit on eBay. There are still bargains to be had here, however just make sure you compare prices before buying and remember not all eBayers are professional sellers so your shipping and customer service experience may not always match that of other places.
Online classified sites, with eBay now focussing more on providing a professional service to buyers many casual sellers have now migrated to online classified sites. Craigslist is probably the best known and most esablished getting millions of visitors every day but there are others Gumtree is one and a newcomer to the market with great backing is Kijiji. looks funny but they are owned by eBay so expect this site to become a strong marketplace for both the professional and casual sellers. Classified sites like Craigslist are generally organised into localities so you do not have to browse thousand of ads from all over the world to find one in your town, simply select your town and category and start browsing. Again, my personal experience highly reccommends Craigslist and Gumtree i have found wonderful bargains here. As a sidenote, you can also find used items here if that is what you are looking for.
Finally for this article are the supermarkets, WalMart etc (Tesco and others outside of the USA) now carry more and more stock of baby clothes, often these are manufactured directly for the supermarket and branded for them too so you can be sure of safety. They may not be the highest quality available but they can be exceptionally cheap and will last the baby easily while she fits in to them, you may not feel they are good enough to save of hand down but is that really your goal when buying clothes for your newborn.
If your household is on a tight budget then using a selection of these sources will make a difference to the amount you spend on clothes for your baby. Cheap baby clothing can be hard to find but with a little dilligence you will find some beautiful high quality bargains using these sources, guaranteed.
