Vintage Baby Clothes

There is some confusion about the terms vintage and retro and although I do not want to get into an argument over the meanings I thought it best to state upfront what is meant in this article when those terms are used.  To me Vintage Baby Clothes would represent clothes that actually belong to that era, clothes from the early 1900's would be vintage.  Clothes manufactured today to look like older styled clothes are termed as vintage style or retro, in addition retro will be used in this article to indicate clothes of a more modern vintage, say late 1950's onward and certainly 1960 onwards.  Confused? I know I am and I wrote it!

Here we are in the 21st Century and Vintage clothes are very hot, this extends to the baby clothes as well, perhaps even more so. Vintage baby clothes are quite hard to find even though if you type the term into any search engine or over at eBay you will find hundreds if not thousands of listings. If you take a closer look at those listings however you will find that many are not for true vintage clothing but for pretend vintage baby clothes.  Of course that will be fine for many readers but if like us you are attracted by the old world style, quality and craftmanship of true vintage baby clothing then the search is a little more time consuming, but almost certainly worth it.

Despite the quality of the vintage items they are often cheaper than today clothes and usually of a much better quality and will last for a long time no matter how many times they get handed down the family children.  The intricate emroidery, knitting or other needlework is often a pleasure just to look at and the materials used were of the highest quality.  The charm of a vintage dress on a young baby is guaranteed to have even the hardest man cooing with delight.

True, most of the time our vintage baby clothes finds from eBay or anywhere else are not really for everyday use but for special occassions, birthdays, meeting the relatives etc they are simply adorable and the value they represent is also quite astounding.  Please feel free to leave a comment here if you find a shareable source of Vintage Babywear as we all need to get in on the act!
